Happy Birthday!!!

On this day, many, many years ago a lovely baby was born. That baby turns 80 today!

No, not me – my dad! Today, on top of it being my 30^th birthday, it is my dad’s 80^th.  I was my mom’s gift to my dad on his 50^th birthday. That’s what happens when there is a 10 year age difference in marriage (my mom was 40.5 when I was born).

I’m not sure what’s going on for my birthday today. Last night we went to dinner because it was my father-in-law’s birthday. And I think we’re going to dinner tonight at Ruth’s Chris, but I’m not sure. See… that was my favorite steak restaurant until I went to Steak in Las Vegas (Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant). Steak is amazing. Ruth Chris… well it’s almost as expensive and not at the same quality as Steak so I feel that it’s a waste to spend $150  for dinner for the two of us for food that I just don’t feel is worth that amount.

However, I think my mother-in-law told Thomas to take me there and I think he went ahead and made reservations. Which will be just fine. I guess I’ve concentrated so much time towards my dad’s party, that I’m a bit bummed that there isn’t more attention to mine. I love birthdays’, especially mine. I feel like this is a big one and I feel like I’m going to be let down. Some other stuff happened, birthday related, that really irked me, so that hasn’t helped.

I guess I wanted attention… and I don’t know how much I’ll get. I guess that’s the negative of sharing a birthday with your dad.

On the bright side: there will be a great cake and great food at my dad’s party on Saturday and I cannot wait to see how surprised he is. I’ll be scanning in pictures from when he was a baby until now and putting them up on a board for people to look at. He was a very cute kid! I’ll be sure to post pictures next week after the party!

I will also be celebrated at work. We're bringing lunch into the office today and then we're going to lunch on Friday. It'll be nice! Look out for Instagram because I know my cubicle will be decorated when I get to work! 

(I hope I didn't sound too negative or whiny!)

Birthday Planning

I've only thrown parties that are mostly disorganized and nothing matches. Then I organized my wedding and it turned out okay. 

This is sort of a brain dump of what has been worrying me. 

But now I'm freaking out! My dad turns 80 on 1 month from today, the same day I turn 30. I think that 80 is a pretty important number so I decided I would throw a party for him. But I don't know what to do or how to really organize it. 

One of things I really hated doing for our wedding was the decorating, that's why it was nice having it in my in-law's back yard where the plants were natural decorations. Then my husband's aunt added decorations to the backyard. 

The party will be in the recreation room in my parents' complex (my dad knows nothing about it and I hope it can be a surprise!) which is an okay looking place, but I definitely need to add decorations to make it look festive. 

I went into Party City this weekend and unfortunately they don't have much in the way of 80th birthday party supplies. The only items that were actually packaged as "80" were some plates and napkins. There are other decorations in which you can add any number you want - which I am thinking will be the way we have to go. 

With that decided I still have to figure out how much I need of which items. Do I need streamers? Should I get balloons that say 80 or just different colored ones? Do I buy a helium tank or should I just get them filled at the store? 

There are SO many things to consider and I hate doing it all. If I just had all the things in front of me I can decorate, but going through the picking and choosing? I hate it. 

If anyone wants to go through Party City's site and tell me what I should get - that'd be awesome! 

The only things that I have accomplished has been getting the invitations made. They were designed by The fabulous Amanda Nicole from Knock on Wood and I had them printed at Wal*Mart's website. I know that the food will come from the same place that catered my wedding and that the cake will come from my high school friend who made my wedding cake. 

I also have the invite list. 

I would like to be able to celebrate my birthday - and I'd love my husband to throw me a party. My husband's cousins' husband threw her an awesome 30th party 2 years ago and I would love something similar... but I know it won't be coming for me.

Okay. I know this was pretty crappy as posts go, but I needed to get my anxieties about this out! 

Weekly Wrap Up

I'm typing this from a windows computer. I'm not a Windows person, but my husband is and he insisted I have a PC so that I can play video games with him (one of the few things that Macs aren't really good for).  I do use Windows at work, but it is for very limited things that only have to do with work (and blog writing sometimes). 

We had a nice weekend. On Friday Thomas invited me out to lunch which works for us because we work within a few blocks of each other. We went to Pizza Rev which is a fairly new pizza chain. It is amazing! Think of Subway's style of making your sandwich and apply that to pizza. I get to put as much bacon on my pizza as I want and whatever type of cheese and other ingredients I want for one price. 

While I made Thomas some Hamburger Helper for dinner I enjoyed my left over pizza! 

Saturday was our busy day. Nikki (my niece) has been planning a picnic for months. Every year she hosts one which I think is pretty cute. This year we had it at our local park which just had a water section added to it.  Now that I have the Galaxy S5 I can go into the area without being afraid of my phone being wet (Jonathan did tell me to be careful with my phone!)

I treated the kids to some Snow Cones at the end of the picnic. 

That evening Thomas, the kids, and I were invited to Thomas' cousins' sons' 2nd birthday party. He's an adorable kid and we all had a really nice time!

But before we could head to that party in the afternoon we had to do some cleaning up:

My brother has been helping us with some upgrades to the condo. He was fixing the sink but we kept having missing pieces to get an air gap. I had run the dishwasher once before earlier this week, but this time it decided to pop and we ended up with a kitchen full of water. Luckily the water wasn't too dirty and it was easy to clean up. 

I'm also happy that we hired a housekeeper that will start Monday afternoon. Yay to clean toilets, sinks, and floors! 

I'm tired just looking at all those pictures! Sunday was a little bit quieter. Thomas had to work all afternoon at his office so I went to Costco and Wal*Mart to run some errands and stock up on food (I cannot keep enough food in this house! He eats so much!). 

I had leftover ground beef from Friday's dinner and I needed to do something with it. I offered it to my mom who suggested I make some meatballs. GREAT IDEA! I had some more frozen ground beef and all the other ingredients that were needed. Plus Thomas loves spaghetti and meatballs! 

While Thomas does eat left overs, I think that the ones that we have he didn't like much the first time around so I don't think he's interested in eating them, so I wanted to make him something fresh Sunday anyway. 

Thomas will be out of town at the end of next week again. *sigh* At least we had a good weekend!

And hey, it's okay that I'm posting this on Tuesday...
